FAQs & Care Policies
A little peace of mind, before you go.
We want arranging care to feel simple, personal, and stress-free. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.
Booking & Care
How do I request care?
You can complete our online Request Care form or contact us directly by phone, text, or email.
We’ll discuss your pets, household needs, preferred dates, and availability to help arrange care that works for you. Submitting an inquiry does not guarantee availability or confirm a booking.
Will I meet my sitter before booking?
Absolutely! We offer a complimentary, in-person meet-and-greet before your first booking so you can get to know the person who will be caring for your animals.
This is a great opportunity to walk through feeding schedules, medications, household routines, and any special instructions. It also gives your pets a chance to become acquainted with us in a familiar environment before care begins.
Amber may attend the meeting or coordinate an introduction directly between you and your assigned sitter.
Who provides the care?
Care may be provided personally by Amber or by an independent sitter introduced through Paw & Plant Homecare.
We work with a small network of care providers and help coordinate introductions, bookings, and communication.
You’ll know who will be caring for your pets before your booking is confirmed, and we’ll typically arrange an opportunity for you to meet them beforehand.
Will someone stay at my home continuously during an overnight booking?
Overnight care includes in-home care during agreed hours but does not automatically include continuous 24-hour supervision.
We’ll discuss your pets’ routines, expectations, and any special scheduling needs before confirming your booking.
Pricing & Payments
How is pricing determined?
Every household is different! Pricing is personalized based on the type and duration of care, household needs, location, schedule, and assigned sitter.
For a general idea of pricing, typical rates may range from:
- Drop-in visits: $30–$60 per visit
- Overnight care: $50–$100 per night
These are estimates, and pricing may vary based on individual care requirements.
We’ll discuss your needs and provide an individual quote before confirming your booking.
When is payment due?
Payment arrangements depend on the type and length of your booking.
Some bookings require payment in full before care begins, while others may be divided into two installments, with an initial payment to reserve your dates and the remaining balance due before the scheduled services are completed.
We’ll discuss payment arrangements in advance so you know exactly what to expect.
Cancellations & Changes
What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that plans change, and we aim to make cancellations as flexible and convenient as possible.
Regular bookings
Cancellations are free when made at least 24 hours before scheduled care begins.
Extended bookings (5 or more consecutive days)
We request at least 72 hours’ notice for free cancellation.
This gives your scheduled sitter time to adjust their plans and potentially reconnect with other families who may have expressed interest in care during those dates.
Holiday bookings
We request at least 72 hours’ notice for free cancellation during designated holiday periods.
Holiday booking periods include:
- New Year’s: December 27 – January 2
- Easter: Good Friday – Easter Monday
- Memorial Day: Friday – Monday
- Independence Day: July 3–5
- Labor Day: Friday – Monday
- Thanksgiving: Wednesday – Sunday
- Christmas: December 23–27
Late cancellations
Cancellations made after the applicable deadline are subject to a 20% cancellation fee based on the value of the canceled services. This helps compensate the assigned sitter for time reserved for your booking.
When possible, we may reach out before your free-cancellation deadline to confirm that your plans are still on schedule. These reminders are a courtesy and may not always be available.
What if I’ve already paid and need to cancel?
If you cancel within the free-cancellation period, payment for services not yet provided will be refunded.
For late cancellations, the applicable fee may be deducted from any amount already paid, and the remainder for unprovided services is refunded. Care already provided remains payable.
Can I change or extend my booking?
Of course! Please contact Paw & Plant or your assigned sitter as early as possible.
We’ll do our best to accommodate schedule changes, additional visits, or extended stays, subject to availability.
What if my sitter has to cancel?
One of our goals at Paw & Plant Homecare is to help clients maintain dependable coverage, even when unexpected circumstances arise.
By working with a small network of independent sitters, we aim to have additional care options available when an assigned sitter experiences an emergency or becomes unavailable.
If this happens, we’ll communicate with you promptly and make every reasonable effort to arrange suitable replacement care.
If a replacement cannot be arranged, payment for services not provided will be refunded without a cancellation penalty.
Pet Care & Home Access
Can you administer medications?
Medication assistance may be available depending on your pet’s needs, the type of medication, and the experience of your assigned sitter.
Please let us know about any medications, medical conditions, or special care instructions before booking.
What happens if my pet becomes sick or injured?
Your pet’s well-being is always a priority.
Before care begins, we’ll ask for veterinary information, emergency contacts, and authorization for emergency care.
If an urgent situation arises, your sitter will make reasonable efforts to contact you and follow your emergency instructions. If necessary, veterinary assistance may be sought according to the authorization you provide.
Clients are generally responsible for veterinary expenses and authorized emergency care costs. Emergency treatment preferences and financial authorization will be discussed before care begins.
How are keys, access codes, and home security handled?
We’ll coordinate a convenient and secure way for your sitter to access your home.
Entry instructions, keys, and access codes are shared only with those who need them to provide your scheduled care.
Will I receive updates about my pets?
Absolutely! We understand how reassuring it is to know your pets are happy and doing well while you’re away.
Your sitter can provide updates, messages, and photographs according to the communication arrangements discussed before your booking.
What should I provide before care begins?
Please share important information about your pets’ feeding schedules, routines, medications, behavior, veterinary contacts, and any special needs.
We also ask that you disclose relevant safety concerns, including bite history, escape tendencies, or household hazards.
Most of these details can be discussed during your complimentary meet-and-greet, giving everyone an opportunity to walk through instructions, ask questions, and become familiar with your household before care begins.
What if I have a concern during my booking?
Please contact your sitter or Paw & Plant as soon as possible.
We value open communication and will work with everyone involved to understand your concerns and determine appropriate next steps.
Have another question?
We’re happy to discuss your household’s needs and help find the right arrangement.
