Hi, I'm Amber, the founder of Paw & Plant Homecare!
With a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Medical Laboratory Science and a background in gene therapy research, my path into pet sitting may be a little different than you'd expect.
My scientific background taught me to pay attention to small changes, follow detailed instructions, and recognize when something isn't quite right. I bring that same attention to the pets and homes I care for, whether it's following feeding and medication routines or noticing when an animal isn't acting quite like themselves.
Request CareA Lifelong Love for Animals
Long before working in a laboratory, I grew up in the country surrounded by horses, chickens, emus, and all kinds of animals.
Caring for them was part of everyday life. I learned early on that every animal has its own personality, habits, and needs. That experience has stayed with me and continues to shape how I approach pet care today.
How I Got Started
My journey into professional pet sitting began unexpectedly.
The gene therapy company I worked for suddenly closed, leaving me searching for another opportunity in research. In the meantime, I created a profile on Rover and began pet sitting as a temporary side gig.
What I hadn't expected was how much I'd enjoy it.
I met wonderful clients, built lasting relationships, and discovered how rewarding it was to help families travel or manage busy schedules without worrying about their animals and homes.
As I continued my research career, my availability became more limited. I didn't want to turn away the families I'd come to know simply because I couldn't accommodate every booking.
That's how Paw & Plant Homecare came to life.
How We Work
I still personally provide as much care as my schedule allows. When additional help is needed, I work with a small network of independent sitters and personally help introduce clients to their assigned caregiver.
I'm a firm believer in complimentary, in-person meet-and-greets. They're an opportunity for everyone to get acquainted, walk through routines, and answer questions before care begins.
For families and pets I've gotten to know over the years, I also serve as a familiar point of contact for sitters who may still be learning their routines. I can often answer everyday questions about a pet's habits or household preferences, helping things run smoothly without unnecessarily interrupting a client's trip.
Beyond pet sitting, Paw & Plant also offers plant and home care, from watering plants to bringing in packages and handling other agreed-upon household tasks.
Whether you're planning a vacation, traveling for work, or simply need an extra hand, I'd love to help make your time away a little easier.
